Liberty Christian Fellowship
Fan or Follower, Part 3
Pastor Dale emphasizes the distinction between being a fan of Jesus and being a follower. A **fan** admires Jesus, may know scripture, and adds Him to their life superficially, but their commitment lacks depth and transformation. A **follower**, in contrast, wholeheartedly surrenders their will to Jesus, makes Him central to their life, and takes up their cross daily—embracing self-denial, responsibility, and the hardships of discipleship.
This message urges listeners to define their relationship with God, moving beyond superficial belief to true devotion. Fans may follow rules or rely on their strength, but followers depend on God for empowerment and prioritize knowing Him intimately over merely knowing about Him. Pastor uses Luke 9:23 to underscore Jesus' call to self-denial and daily commitment.
The cross symbolizes responsibility, suffering, and sacrifice, reflecting the cost of genuine discipleship. Pastor contrasts fleeting admiration (fans) with enduring, transformative commitment (followers) and warns against delaying or making excuses for full surrender, as illustrated by Jesus' interactions in Luke 9:57–62.
Ultimately, the call is to prioritize a deep, sacrificial relationship with Christ, marked by daily surrender, over the comfort and superficiality of fandom.
